SIGNO/SME patent action

SIGNO supports innovative thinking and action!

From the initial idea to complete utilization. SIGNO (innovation stimulation) is the largest network in Germany for inventions and patenting. PAVIS has been a member of this network since 1995.
SIGNO/SME patent action

Within this network, 39 companies are currently working towards a common goal:

  • the strengthening of the inventor culture in Germany
  • the reinforcement of innovative activity and competitiveness
  • the optimized application of intellectual property rights
  • the improvement of know-how in the patent information area

SIGNO - objectives

1. SIGNO is contributing to a climate in Germany which is favourable to innovation and thus to the boosting of inventive activity. This is intended to establish the public status of innovations and improve the environment for inventors. Committed people, whether they are entrepreneurs, researchers, university or school students, must be persuaded to develop inventions. SIGNO supports creative minds and their innovative ideas and products!

2. SIGNO strengthens innovative activity and also marketability and business competitiveness. Despite repeated efforts to optimize internal business processes, many SMEs have difficulty in achieving lasting demand for their products. If, on the other hand, you dedicate yourself permanently to technical innovations, one successfully completed product development is useful as the basis for the next innovation process. SIGNO promotes available potential and thus stimulates the creation of new jobs.

3. SIGNO promotes the implementation of new ideas for marketing. Protecting an idea as an industrial property right is also the basis for the commercial utilization of an invention. By showing the possibilities of patent protection at an early stage, SIGNO helps to prevent costs in respect of duplicated developments.

4. Know-how is the requirement for the development of innovations. However, in Germany, almost 94% of all patents are unprotected, either because time limits have been exceeded or because the applications have been revoked. SIGNO improves knowledge about patenting and the use of patent databases. SIGNO intends to close gaps in knowledge and assists in obtaining and selecting efficient patent information.

Because of its particular proximity to the patent attorney profession, PAVIS occupies a special position in the SIGNO network. It therefore successfully implemented the SME patent campaign – an aid programme by the German Federal Government for patent applicants - by arrangement through patent attorneys.
